Rest Area Ministry



It is with much excitement that we share SUMC's Rest Area Ministry with you! 

You can be in mission to people close to home by serving refreshments at the "Rest Area" during Farhill Downs Annual Neighborhood Garage Sale on Saturday, June 14. We are the hands and feet of Christ while handing out hot dogs, drinks, popsicles, and providing a rest area for folks in the neighborhood attending the garage sale. No Rest Area is complete without a port-o-let, which will be available to all!  These gifts of food and drink are free to those who receive as a symbol of the love of Christ is a free gift to us.

We will serve from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Shifts are various lengths of time depending on availability of servers. No experience is necessary – we will provide on-the-job training!

You are a light in the darkness; a beacon to bring the good news to those in need in our world. “When did we see you hungry and feed you?” was asked and Jesus said, “Whenever you did it for the least of these, you did it unto me.”

Dear Friends,            I am excited about the many things that are happening at Southport UMC this month.   There are many things going on at Southport UMC as we continue in ministry to the Southside of Indianapolis, but I would like to highlight a few opportunities, as well as share some information about changes that are coming this month. First of all, because of storm damage we are getting a new roof. This work will begin after September 8 and will take around a week to complete (weather permitting). Secondly, we will begin signups for Journey Groups this month, and I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to grow in your faith through a small group. ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

You may or may not know that in the past, Southport United Methodist Church has been able to offer a small scholarship to assist with college expenses.   The scholarship was made possible by some past members of SUMC:   Mary & Riley Lynch. We haven’t been able to offer the scholarship for a few years but are able to do so again. If you are interested or want more information, please contact Pastor Doug in the church office. Application deadline is July 15th, 2019.   A decision will be made at that time so there can be no applications accepted after that date.
