Music Ministry



There are many ways one can join the music ministry. 
1) Join Chancel Choir.  The Chancel Choir sings for our traditional service at 8:15 a.m. Sunday mornings.  We will also be singing for our Christmas Eve Service at 11:00 p.m. with special   music provided at 10:30 p.m.  We could use all four parts in the choir: soprano, alto, tenor, bass.  There are no auditions. Everyone is welcome. Rehearsals are held each Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. in the Music Room.

2) Join Handbells:  The Handbells play approximately once a month for our traditional service on Sunday mornings at 8:15 a.m.   We will also be providing special music for our Christmas Eve service at 11:00 p.m. with special music provided at 10:30 p.m.  There are currently six members in our handbell, choir and we cordially invite more people to join so that we can grow our group.  We rehearse Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. in the music room.  There are no auditions, but knowing how to read music or an interest in learning how to read music is  always a plus.

3) Join Junior Praise Choir:  The Junior Praise Choir meets Sunday mornings from 10:50 to 11:10 a.m. in the Music Room.  It is for first-graders and up. We sing for the Christmas Eve service at 5:00 p.m. and other times throughout the year.  All are welcome.

Dear Friends,            I am excited about the many things that are happening at Southport UMC this month.   There are many things going on at Southport UMC as we continue in ministry to the Southside of Indianapolis, but I would like to highlight a few opportunities, as well as share some information about changes that are coming this month. ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

You may or may not know that in the past, Southport United Methodist Church has been able to offer a small scholarship to assist with college expenses.   The scholarship was made possible by some past members of SUMC:   Mary & Riley Lynch. We haven’t been able to offer the scholarship for a few years but are able to do so again. If you are interested or want more information, please contact Pastor Doug in the church office. Application deadline is July 15th, 2019.   A decision will be made at that time so there can be no applications accepted after that date.
