A Letter from Pastor Mark - July

Dear Friends,
By the time you receive this newsletter, I will have already presented my first sermon in the new sermon series.  This series will extend throughout the summer all the way through September.  In this series, which explains the expanded length, we will be examining Paul’s letter to the Ephesian church.  We will go through the entire book passage by passage.
I have entitled this sermon series “The Intent of God” because I believe that the emphasis and direction of the Book of Ephesians reveals a lot about God’s purpose and plan for each of us.  I want to share the schedule for this series so that you will be aware of which subjects will be coming up.  I am also listing the scripture so that you can read that scripture prior to the sermon if you so choose.
June 25 & 28 “The Intent of God:  God’s Purpose and Plan for Us”  Ephesians 1:1-14
July 2 & 5 “The Intent of God: God’s Desire for Us”  Ephesians 1:15-23
July 9 & 12 “The Intent of God: A New Way to Live”  Ephesians 2:1-10
July 16 & 19 “The Intent of God: United with Christ”  Ephesians 2:11-22
July 23 & 26 “The Intent of God: Proclaim the Good News”  Ephesians 3:1-13
July 30 & August 2 “The Intent of God: To Know Christ and to Make Him Known”  Ephesians 3:14-21
August 6 & 9 “The Intent of God: To Be One in Christ  Ephesians 4:1-16
August 13 & 16 “The Intent of God: A New Mind”  Ephesians 4:17-2

August 20 & 23 “The Intent of God: Making Right Choices”  Ephesians 4:25-5:2

August 27 & 30 “The Intent of God: A Life Beyond Reproach  Ephesians 5:3-7

September 3 & 6 “The Intent of God: Living in the Light”  Ephesians 5:8-20

September 10 & 13 “The Intent of God: A Life of Submission”  Ephesians 5:21-6:9

September 24 & 27 “The Intent of God: Fearlessly Proclaiming the Gospel” Ephesians 6:19-24

I hope that you will be able to be present in worship each week during this sermon series.

I also want to invite you to welcome Jason Young on the staff of Southport United Methodist Church.  Jason is going to be primarily working in the area of Missional Outreach.  He is starting as of July 1.  Jason and his family (his wife Angela and his two daughters, Emma and Anna) have been a part of SUMC for many years.  Please welcome Jason to the ministry of Southport UMC in this new capacity.

In Christ’s Abundant Love,
Pastor Mark
