Thanks to SUMC from the Rockville Kairos Team



A big thank you goes out to all who supported the Kairos Prison Ministry weekend at the Rockville Correctional Facility October 29-November 1.  Because of generous contributions of many kinds, Kairos was able to share Christ’s love with the 41 women who completed the amazing weekend.

First of all, thanks for your prayers.  In all there were nearly 5000 links in the 300-yard prayer chain.  People from many states and countries were praying around the clock for the weekend.

Thanks to the many who baked cookies.  Because of this labor of love, the team was able to share cookies with the participants, and they in turn could deliver forgiveness cookies within the prison.  All residents of the facility as well as correction officers enjoyed the cookies.

Thanks also to the many who prepared posters and placemats.
Another thank you goes out to all who offered financial support.  From loose pocket change to generous checks, your donations helped fund the weekend. Thanks to SUMC’s Faith Promise Fund for supporting the four church members who were a part of the 44-member team.  

Thanks to SUMC for opening its doors to the Kairos team for training on two of the five all-day training sessions when Roberts Park was unavailable. Thanks to those who provided lunch for those training sessions.

Finally thanks to the nine people from SUMC who took the time November 1 to drive to Rockville for the closing ceremony. Your presence was truly a gift.

Dear Friends,            I am excited about the many things that are happening at Southport UMC this month.   There are many things going on at Southport UMC as we continue in ministry to the Southside of Indianapolis, but I would like to highlight a few opportunities, as well as share some information about changes that are coming this month. First of all, because of storm damage we are getting a new roof. This work will begin after September 8 and will take around a week to complete (weather permitting). ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

You may or may not know that in the past, Southport United Methodist Church has been able to offer a small scholarship to assist with college expenses.   The scholarship was made possible by some past members of SUMC:   Mary & Riley Lynch. We haven’t been able to offer the scholarship for a few years but are able to do so again. If you are interested or want more information, please contact Pastor Doug in the church office. Application deadline is July 15th, 2019.   A decision will be made at that time so there can be no applications accepted after that date.
