JUBILEE

Christmas in July
Many children and their families at Homecroft Elementary will receive much needed support at the beginning of the school year because of your generosity in giving to “Christmas in July.”  Along with clothing we were able to provide the staff with gift cards to use in emergencies situations.  This may cover children’s school items or their personal needs such as shoes,  medicine or doctor visits that their family cannot afford. Thank you for sowing the seeds that helps others know of Jesus’ love.

Jubilee Christmas
After Christmas in July the Jubilee Planning Team begins preparations for our December ministry of Jubilee Christmas.  With assistance from the school social workers, 20-25 families from the community will be invited to participate.
With input from last year’s Jubilee Hosts, we are looking at ways to connect more effectively with the families, possibly arranging a time to meet earlier in the process, and improve communications while forming relationships.

A Jubilee Host (individual, couple, or family) is matched with a recommended family. The dictionary defines host as “one that receives or entertains guests socially, commercially, or officially.”  We suggest these opportunities as a Jubilee host:
Make the initial connection with your Jubilee family through a phone call, introducing yourself and inviting them to be part of Jubilee Christmas

Assist the family to obtain clothing sizes for their children and suggestions for gifts
Shop with an adult from the family and select clothing for their children (this happens on a  Saturday morning as a group experience with other Jubilee hosts and families and the Jubilee Ministry Team, with expenses covered through the Faith Promise fund.)
Make occasional calls to your family reminding them of upcoming important dates (shopping day, Jubilee Day, etc.)

Join the adults from your Jubilee family on December 10 at church with other hosts and families for refreshments, to wrap gifts, and celebrate the Jubilee experience.
The Ministry Team invites previous hosts to participate again this year and welcomes all who are interested in hosting for the first time to share your desire to help by calling Sherry Davis at the church office, 784-9508 or email sherry@sumc.org.
