You are invited to a Kairos closing.



If you are interested in seeing the impact of a Kairos Prison Ministry weekend, prayerfully  consider attending a closing ceremony.  Volunteers from SUMC will be serving at the Plainfield Correctional Facility October 12-15, Indiana Women’s Prison October 19-22 and the Rockville Correctional Facility November 2-5.  Because Kairos asks volunteers to take a  weekend off after serving three before serving again, a number of SUMC volunteers are willing to escort you to any of the three facilities mentioned.  The closings are on the Sunday afternoons mentioned in the above dates.  Plainfield is a men’s facility, while the other two are women’s facilities. On the weekend, men serve at men’s facilities and women at women’s.  For closing, however, you may attend either a men’s or women’s facility.  In order for you to  attend, the facility needs for you to complete a background check.  If you think you would be interested, please let the church office know as soon as possible so that you can complete the paperwork in time.  You can also sign up September 7 or to at the Next Steps table.

Dear Friends,            I am excited about the many things that are happening at Southport UMC this month.   There are many things going on at Southport UMC as we continue in ministry to the Southside of Indianapolis, but I would like to highlight a few opportunities, as well as share some information about changes that are coming this month. First of all, because of storm damage we are getting a new roof. This work will begin after September 8 and will take around a week to complete (weather permitting). ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

You may or may not know that in the past, Southport United Methodist Church has been able to offer a small scholarship to assist with college expenses.   The scholarship was made possible by some past members of SUMC:   Mary & Riley Lynch. We haven’t been able to offer the scholarship for a few years but are able to do so again. If you are interested or want more information, please contact Pastor Doug in the church office. Application deadline is July 15th, 2019.   A decision will be made at that time so there can be no applications accepted after that date.
