How many of you enjoy coffee and doughnuts on Sunday morning as you come for worship?   Whether you do or whether you don’t, as you see our team members that set up and clean up for this ministry, thank them ! The team of people responsible for picking up the doughnuts, making the coffee, creating a welcoming environment, keeping the doughnuts stocked and cleaning up after, do all of this work behind-the-scenes.   It is through their serving that coffee and doughnuts are available each week.   Without this team, there is no coffee and doughnuts and then, no radical hospitality through this free gift to those attending worship. We want to invite others to be part of this vital ministry that helps us show radical hospitality to those that come through our doors each week.   Please prayerfully consider being involved and contact the church office if you are willing to serve as part of this team. Parents, Check out our new and exciting opportunity for children in 3rd-6th grades to worship on Sundays at 11:15. Currently, all children 2years to 5th grade worship together in the West Wing at 11:15. Beginning April 3, we will be offering a separate worship experience for children, 3rd-6th grades. This worship time will be located in the Underground of the East Wing in room E100. Kelcey Snyder, our Youth Director, will be teaching this class. Students will explore the Bible using our elementary age curriculum. We also use this     curriculum at our 10:00 children’s church worship hour. Our curriculum offers many exciting ways to explore the Bible and scripture through video, stories, and activities.   Both worship times (10:00/11:15) will be exploring the same scripture, however, teaching styles and activities will be different.

      June 21-23                                                               9:00 a.m. — 12:00 p.m. Enjoy Music and More, Bible Adventures, Projects—with—a — purpose,   Pet Playground games, Rovers Rest stop (snack), and the Tail End. All children age 3 years—5th grade welcome. Registration for those interested in serving will be at next steps May 15 and 22. Participant   Registration will begin May 29.  

Thank You the 45 volunteers that gave of their time to work on the eight SUMC      properties on Saturday, April 23.  Pack 39, Troop 39 and SUMC teamed up to address many projects to enhance all of the properties from Southport Road to Worman Street.  Thank you for your talents and working together.    

Dear Friends, As I am writing this letter, it is the Monday morning after Easter Sunday.   It was a wonderful day of worship and celebration.   Christ is risen and we celebrated that reality with abandon.   Unfortunately, when the balanced calendar spring break (which is two weeks instead of the    traditional one) encompasses Easter, many people from the church and the community are absent due to travels.   However, in spite of that fact, I noticed something very interesting this Easter.   With the large number of people who were traveling, the 10 and 11:15 services were full.   I saw many people who were guests from the community.   In addition to that, there was a wonderful atmosphere of spiritual seeking and openness.   After services I heard many stories of how people had been moved to tears and that the worship had touched them deeply.   As I delivered the morning message, I sensed an extreme openness to how the mess...

Through Family Promise’s Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN), homeless families find secure places to stay while they recover from their current condition. Congregations      throughout the city open their doors to serve families, offering that warm, safe environment. Sunday, April 3 -10 (note date change), we are the people these families count on. Southport United Methodist Church and Boy Scout Troop 39 and Pack 39 are working together to fill the shelves at Fletcher Place Food Pantry so that hundreds of people can be fed. Donations will be collected through April 19.
