THANK YOU On behalf of the Homecroft PTA, staff and students, please accept our heartfelt thanks for all of the school supplies you donated to our school. Thanks to your generosity, we were able to provide 270 children with the tools they need to succeed in the upcoming school year. You are wonderful! Greatfully, Dana Lynn Hiller For the Homecroft PTA Dear SUMC Friends, We want to thank you for you support of the Kairos Prison Ministries weekend at Indiana Women’s Prison Aug. 8-11. Twenty-four women from the prison participated in the weekend. They learned that God loves them! What wonderful news! Thanks you for making cookies, praying, giving financial support and attending the closing ceremony. We look forward to the next Kairos weekend at Rockville the end of October. Connie Klipsch & Billie Hunteman
Kairos Prison Ministry offers men many opportunities to serve. The facility closest to home is the Plainfield Correctional Facility. Kairos is going into that facility for a weekend in the fall. Other correctional facilities where men can serve include Pendleton, New Castle, Putnamville and Wabash Valley. To see more information, go to kairosofindiana.org. If any men in our congregation are interested in serving, contact the church office for more information. For those who might have reservations about serving inside a correctional facility, you might want to discuss prison ministry with any of the seven women from SUMC who have served during the last two years. If you would ask any of those involved, you would find a positive response from each one about how meaningful this ministry has been to them. They have served at both the Rockville Correctional Facility and Indiana Women’s Prison.
As many of you are aware from the announcement made in church, Girls with God was cancelled this year. Regrettably, unlike 2016, we simply did not have the participation from young ladies. However, we do want to thank those who stepped up to be volunteers and those who purchased items from the tag boards. The community service projects we had planned to complete with those purchased items will still be carried out. Do not dismay, the items purchased and donated will not go to waste! Our youth will still participate in these outreach projects but through Sunday morning groups. They will make the Blessing Bags that contain the items purchased from the tags. So we are very pleased that God’s work will still be carried out, and we're happy it will still be done by the youth.
