UMW Happenings



Thursday, March 12 is Legislative Day---all are welcome to come (and we will carpool from SUMC—contact Felicia!!)

Eleanor Pershing, St Matthew United Methodist Church, Frankfort--Immigration Reform Laura Berry, Indiana Coalition against Domestic Violence--Domestic Violence

We will start at 9 a.m. at North United Methodist (located at 3808 North Meridian St,     Indianapolis).  Bring your own lunch or enjoy sandwiches provided.  An afternoon       opportunity to meet legislators at the Capitol Building will follow lunch with round-trip  shuttle service provided by the church's van.  The day will conclude by 3:30 at North Church.  The event is sponsored jointly by United Methodist Women and Church Women United.  

Mission u is July 21-24. Sampler day is July 25.
Mission u is an educational event offering programing for everyone ages 3 and through  adulthood.  The weekday event runs Tuesday afternoon through Friday and includes sessions that are Biblically-grounded, promote spiritual growth, and challenge participants to become more actively engaged in Mission.  The event is at DePauw University in Greencastle.  The Saturday sampler is a “taste” of each of the studies for those unable to attend during the week. 
 
Why are we talking about Mission u now?  Because scholarships are available!  Go to the Indiana United Methodist Women website www.inumc.org/missionu for more        information.  Deadline for scholarships for all ages is April 15.

Dear Friends, As I am writing this letter, I am still reeling from the news of the terrible tragedy that continues to unfold in Oklahoma.  I am sure that all of you know that an F5 tornado devastated Moore, a suburb of Oklahoma City.  At the time of my writing this communication, we still do not have complete information on the total number of fatalities and injuries.  We do know that the damage can only be described as complete and total devastation. As I have watched the news reports over the past several days, I have heard people tell their stories.  Over and over again I heard people say, “All I could do was pray.”  “I prayed that God would keep me and my family safe.”  On one report I saw a video clip that had been filmed by a person that was a safe distance away from the storm.  As he taped the scene he witnessed the incredible power and destruction that was happening right before his eyes.  The person audibly offered this prayer....

Fall Kairos Weekend Volunteers Soon to be Trained

Since 2012, a significant number of people from SUMC have been involved in Kairos Prison Ministry.  Some have also been or currently are weekend leaders, state officials, and even an international officer. In October and November, there are many opportunities to serve, both inside and outside the prison walls.  Team formation is in the process for three inside facilities where SUMC members serve.  The first is Indiana Women’s Prison, October 3-6, followed a week later by Plainfield Correctional Facility for men, October 10-13.  A third is Rockville Correctional Facility (women) October 31-November 3. There will be a ministry table at church July 11 and 14 as well as August 22 and 25.  Check those out to find all the different ways to serve as well as how to sign up to attend a closing. A Letter from Pastor Mark

Dear Friends, Nearly two years ago we reorganized staff and the ministries of the church around our mission and our discipleship path.   The mission of the church is “To make new disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of our community and the world.”   For those who are already following Jesus and for those who are coming into the faith, we grow in our discipleship by: Connecting to God through Jesus Christ Growing deeper in the faith Serving in the church and in the community in the name of Jesus Christ Giving of ourselves and our resources significantly because of our love for Christ This reorganization has been an exercise in faith.   In many areas the reorganization has helped make us more efficient as we do ministry for the cause of Christ.   However, many times the first time we try something we don’t get it completely right.   Whenever we are engaging in change, we have to be willing to tweak and change things as we go ...
