NEW CHURCH LOGO
You may have noticed a new logo (or branding) at the top of
this newsletter and on other church related communications. If you didn’t notice it, take a quick look
and then come back to this article.
This new logo/brand is being used because it represents what
we are about here at Southport United Methodist Church. Let me explain some key parts to the new
brand. This explanation will help
reinforce our mission and vision and will allow each of you to explain the
brand to others as you have an opportunity.
First, you’ll notice that the “S” in Southport appears as a
road, or more accurately, a “path.” This
represents the path of discipleship that each disciple of Jesus is on for their
entire life.
Second, you’ll notice that at the beginning of the path is a
cross. This represents that the start of
each of our journeys occurs when we accept Jesus’ death on the cross and His
resurrection from the grave as the payment for our sins, the repairing of our
relationship with God and the start of a new life – we are born again which is
the start of our lifelong discipleship journey.
Third, we travel along our discipleship path throughout our
life by continually doing the things that mark us as a disciple of Jesus: CONNECT to God through Jesus Christ (i.e.,
worshipping God); GROW in our faith in Christ (through study and small groups); SERVE (in the world for Christ through
ministry teams of our church); GIVE (of
ourselves for Christ’s work in the world).
Finally, you’ll notice that we simply say that we are
SOUTHPORT CHURCH. The cultural trends in
this day tell us that people looking for a church home are more concerned about
the teaching of the church than they are looking for a church of a specific
denomination.
If you ever have the
chance to invite others to our church, stop by Guest Services and pick up a
couple of church business cards with the new logo. As people ask what it means, you now will be
able to explain what our church believes.
