Homecroft Elementary News

Schools are back in session!  And our partnership with Homecroft Elementary is going strong.  Thanks to the Jubilee Christmas team and their Christmas in July ministry, Homecroft administrators were given gift cards, school supplies and clothing items to be used for Homecroft children in need.  Truly this is the love of Christ in action!

There are also ways to be the hands and feet and voice of Jesus by helping the school and the children in a hands-on way.  Here are a few opportunities:

· We are starting our fourth year of being involved in the After School Achiever’s Club.  Children stay after school and get help with homework.  But more importantly, the adults that help the children are building relationships, relationships that the children will           remember for years to come.  This year, the After School Achiever’s Club will meet on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:45 – 4:30 p.m., starting Tuesday, September 15.
· Perry Township has a mentor program called H.O.P.E. Mentor (Help Our Pupils Excel).  A HOPE mentor works directly in a classroom and assists the teacher as needed, helping with groups of students or helping with individual students.  Normally, a HOPE Mentor will work in the classroom for 60 – 90 minutes each week.
· We as Christ’s body here at Southport United Methodist Church support the Perry       Township Religious Education classes at Homecroft each week.  We teach both 4th graders (on Mondays at 3:45 p.m.) and 5th graders (on Tuesdays at 3:45 p.m.).  Since it is after school, we can hold these classes on school property.

If you would like to help in a hands-on way at Homecroft Elementary, helping the children grow as they see caring, Christ-filled adults involved in their lives, please contact Doug Shinkle in the church office.
