Fall Clothing Drive



Benefitting Family Promise and IHN of Greater Indianapolis


 



SUMC COLLECTION:
Sunday, October 18 through Sunday, October 25

What: Gently used clothing for children and adults, all sizes (sorry, no shoes or household items please)



How it works:
· Collect gently used clothing and place in white kitchen trash bags
· Bring bags of clothing to church during the week of October 18-25
· Monday, October 26, donations will be delivered to the Day Center of IHN/Family Promise
· Goodwill Industries picks up the bags from the Day Center and based on the number of bags received, donates clothing vouchers for Family Promise/IHN guests to choose the clothing sizes they need.


Please bring your bagged clothing donations during the week of October 18-25 ONLY and place them under the hallway coat racks.  Thank you!

Kairos Offers Many Ways to Serve

Four women of SUMC (Lyndsay Bierce, Karen Decatur, Billie Hunteman and Connie Klipsch) are in the midst of training to serve at a Kairos Prison Ministry weekend at the Indiana Women’s Prison (IWP) June 5-8.   They are among at least 44 women from various churches in the Central Indiana area who will minister to 42 incarcerated women at IWP. On April 24 and 27, representatives will be at a Next Steps table to let you know how you can be a vital part of that ministry. There are many ways those who do not wish to serve inside the prison walls can help to make the spiritual retreat a success.   The first is prayer.   It is an extremely emotional moment when the participants see a long    prayer chain with thousands of names of people who are praying for them.   You can sign up for a time to pray and receive a reminder slip about that time as well as a list of specific ideas for prayer. Fall Kairos Weekend Volunteers Soon to be Trained

Since 2012, a significant number of people from SUMC have been involved in Kairos Prison Ministry.  Some have also been or currently are weekend leaders, state officials, and even an international officer. In October and November, there are many opportunities to serve, both inside and outside the prison walls.  Team formation is in the process for three inside facilities where SUMC members serve.  The first is Indiana Women’s Prison, October 3-6, followed a week later by Plainfield Correctional Facility for men, October 10-13.  A third is Rockville Correctional Facility (women) October 31-November 3. There will be a ministry table at church July 11 and 14 as well as August 22 and 25.  Check those out to find all the different ways to serve as well as how to sign up to attend a closing.
