JOY Travelers Louisville Trip Reminder



There’s still time to sign up for the JOY Travelers’ Trip to Louisville April 23. For full details, see last month’s newsletter.  The trip includes the Louisville Slugger Museum and factory tour and lunch at Huber Farms, north of New Albany. Dear Friends, As I am writing this letter, I am still reeling from the news of the terrible tragedy that continues to unfold in Oklahoma.  I am sure that all of you know that an F5 tornado devastated Moore, a suburb of Oklahoma City.  At the time of my writing this communication, we still do not have complete information on the total number of fatalities and injuries.  We do know that the damage can only be described as complete and total devastation. As I have watched the news reports over the past several days, I have heard people tell their stories.  Over and over again I heard people say, “All I could do was pray.”  “I prayed that God would keep me and my family safe.”  On one report I saw a video clip that had been filmed by a person that was a safe distance away from the storm.  As he taped the scene he witnessed the incredible power and destruction that was happening right before his eyes.  The person audibly offered this prayer....

Fall Kairos Weekend Volunteers Soon to be Trained

Since 2012, a significant number of people from SUMC have been involved in Kairos Prison Ministry.  Some have also been or currently are weekend leaders, state officials, and even an international officer. In October and November, there are many opportunities to serve, both inside and outside the prison walls.  Team formation is in the process for three inside facilities where SUMC members serve.  The first is Indiana Women’s Prison, October 3-6, followed a week later by Plainfield Correctional Facility for men, October 10-13.  A third is Rockville Correctional Facility (women) October 31-November 3. There will be a ministry table at church July 11 and 14 as well as August 22 and 25.  Check those out to find all the different ways to serve as well as how to sign up to attend a closing. Serving Draws Us Closer to Christ

“It’s less about the task and more about the way that serving draws us closer to Christ.” Let’s begin the new year by choosing to serve in ways that will draw us closer to God and model Jesus’ love for others. First ….if you have not experienced MINISTRY DISCOVERY , let’s begin there. Ministry Discovery determines the ministry role and spiritual gifts you have been blessed with to serve God by serving others.   The process involves completing two assessments and after scoring we spend about an hour discussing the results, answering questions, and exploring ministries in which your gifts can be best used.   We are an Equipping church that believes when each person becomes a follower of Jesus we are given special gifts to bless others. When we use these gifts our passion and joy for serving is greater and bears more fruit. Not every ministry is for us to take on as a church and we seek God’s will for how we serve and reach others in our community to share His love....
