INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK (IHN)
Sunday, May 7 families arrive for a two week period and our church becomes their home: a place to rest after a long day, have a warm meal with new friends, sleep in a family bedroom (each family has a classroom in the east wing for this purpose), and the next morning return to the IHN Day Center.  During the day the children are in school, the adults go to jobs or job hunt, and move through the process of finding a new home in which to live. Our presence during their arrival and throughout their stay is one way to share Jesus’ grace and love with our guests.

UPPER SAND MOUNTAIN MISSION TRIP
There is still time to register for this year’s USM mission trip. Join youth and adults leaving Sunday, June 18 traveling to Upper Sand, Alabama for a week of construction, painting, and odd jobs, returning Saturday, June 24.  As with any mission trip, it isn’t all about work.  Meet new friends, grow in relationship with your team members, worship, pray, and see God’s creation in a whole new light. Contact the church office for more information.

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL
Three mornings of excitement begin Tuesday, June 13 but the preparations have already begun.  Visit the VBS Next Steps table in the Gathering Place starting Thursday and Sunday, May 11 and 14. Discover how you can participate with VBS, or select an item from the colorful tag boards to donate, and support the ministry.

The Creation Care team would like to thank all of SUMC as a part of the team by continuing to recycle at SUMC.  We are always wanting our church to love God's creation and respect it by being Earth conscious.   The Indy Green Congregations newsletter for January can be found at:    greencong1@gmail.com    Check out all the opportunities available on this site.  EX:   They are offering workshops on how to work your soil up for the Spring (which I hope comes soon) and other opportunities.  Their next meeting is February on the third Thursday.

ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

You may or may not know that in the past, Southport United Methodist Church has been able to offer a small scholarship to assist with college expenses.   The scholarship was made possible by some past members of SUMC:   Mary & Riley Lynch. We haven’t been able to offer the scholarship for a few years but are able to do so again. If you are interested or want more information, please contact Pastor Doug in the church office. Application deadline is July 15th, 2019.   A decision will be made at that time so there can be no applications accepted after that date.
