CHRISTMAS IN JULY



The JUBILEE MINISTRY TEAM is preparing for a special Christmas in July and will be a Next Step on Thursday evenings and Sunday mornings during the month of July. 

In the January newsletter you may have read the article about Jubilee spreading its wings and having a season of Jubilation in 2015. We will continue to provide gifts, food, and personal care items to 25 Perry Township families on Jubilee Christmas day, Saturday, December 12. Information will be at the Next Steps table.

We know that family and children’s needs aren’t only during the holidays. So we choose to share the good news of Jesus throughout the year. With the input of school social workers, nurses, and staff, we are learning effective ways we can lend support and address needs. 

A second component of Jubilee’s Christmas in July is offering opportunities for you to  contribute to the identified needs given to us by the schools. More information will be at the Next Steps table with suggestions listed on the tag boards. Possibilities are: 

¨ Specific school supplies
¨ Emergency clothing needs
¨ Uniforms
¨ Gift cards

How can you help before July? If you shop at Goodwill, there are extra sales and bargains the first Saturday of the month. You might enjoy shopping garage sales or have some closets of your own that need cleaning. 

· Look for khaki colored slacks, gently used, in husky or men’s sizes (middle high youth     often wear adult sizes)
· Any size belts, adjustable or braided
· Gently used sweatshirts, no hoods, plain color
· Jackets, light or heavyweight
Please keep any purchases at home until our first Christmas in July on the 2nd and 5th, and each following Thursday and Sunday. Then stop at the Next Steps table, learn more about being part of Jubilee Christmas for December, and get additional information about making a difference in the lives of children in our community.

You may or may not know that in the past, Southport United Methodist Church has been able to offer a small scholarship to assist with college expenses.   The scholarship was made possible by some past members of SUMC:   Mary & Riley Lynch. A Letter from Pastor Chris

Dear Friends,            I am excited about the many things that are happening at Southport UMC this month.   There are many things going on at Southport UMC as we continue in ministry to the Southside of Indianapolis, but I would like to highlight a few opportunities, as well as share some information about changes that are coming this month. First of all, because of storm damage we are getting a new roof. This work will begin after September 8 and will take around a week to complete (weather permitting). Secondly, we will begin signups for Journey Groups this month, and I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to grow in your faith through a small group.
