JOY Travelers



Reservations are now being taken for a day trip with the JOY (Just Old Youth) Travelers August 13.  (If you received an earlier pamphlet with an August 15 date, that was a typographical error.)  Madison, Indiana, is the destination.  Lunch will be at the Clifty Inn, on the ground of Clifty Falls State Park.

The deluxe motor coach will depart from and return to the Southport Church of the Nazarene.  Cost for the ride is $20 per person.  Lunch and any other optional expenses are on your own.

Seniors from many local churches have thus far attended previous trips, which included visiting the Underground Railroad Museum and Jungle Jim’s in Cincinnati, having lunch on the Belle of Louisville, visiting the Falls of the Ohio, and attending a matinee performance of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers at the Derby Dinner Theater.

If you are interested in attending the Madison trip, please contact the church office for more information.  Reservations are made on a first –come-first-served basis.  As of this date, seats are available.  The last trip filled up rapidly.

Dear Friends,            I am excited about the many things that are happening at Southport UMC this month.   There are many things going on at Southport UMC as we continue in ministry to the Southside of Indianapolis, but I would like to highlight a few opportunities, as well as share some information about changes that are coming this month. First of all, because of storm damage we are getting a new roof. This work will begin after September 8 and will take around a week to complete (weather permitting). ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

You may or may not know that in the past, Southport United Methodist Church has been able to offer a small scholarship to assist with college expenses.   The scholarship was made possible by some past members of SUMC:   Mary & Riley Lynch. We haven’t been able to offer the scholarship for a few years but are able to do so again. If you are interested or want more information, please contact Pastor Doug in the church office. Application deadline is July 15th, 2019.   A decision will be made at that time so there can be no applications accepted after that date.
