JOURNEY GROUPS



There are two more Journey Groups that are being offered as part of our summer offerings.


·         REVIVAL (FAITH AS WESLEY LIVED IT) will start Monday August 10 at 7:00 pm.  Revival is a 6 week study by Adam Hamilton, senior pastor of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Kansas.  In each session, Hamilton (through a short video segment) presents key events and places in the life of John Wesley and the movement he led and describes the convictions and essential practices of Wesley and the early Methodists.  Hamilton believes that by reclaiming the faith, heart, and practices of John Wesley and the early Methodists, we can rediscover the best parts of our own hearts and churches and that in doing so we might help spark a revival of Christianity in our time.  Led by Doug Shinkle.  Cost of the book:  $13.25.


·         SIMPLE STUDENT MINISTRY Journey Group will start Wednesday September 9 at 6:30 pm (during iGod).  Simple Student Ministry fine tunes the proven methods of #1 best seller Simple Church (that we have studied at our church) for the unique field of youth discipleship.  Coauthor Eric Geiger, who contributed to the latter, takes a step forward here, neatly unpacking the key ideas of Clarity, Movement, Alignment, and Focus that will transform any over-stimulated youth program into a simpler, more results-oriented spiritual development process. Fun is still allowed, by all means, but the ultimate emphasis on maturing faith is simply essential.  We would encourage all adult leaders in Student Ministry as well as parents of students to participate.  Led by Kelcey Snyder.  Cost of the book:  $13.

A Letter from Pastor Chris

Dear Friends,            I am excited about the many things that are happening at Southport UMC this month.   There are many things going on at Southport UMC as we continue in ministry to the Southside of Indianapolis, but I would like to highlight a few opportunities, as well as share some information about changes that are coming this month. First of all, because of storm damage we are getting a new roof. This work will begin after September 8 and will take around a week to complete (weather permitting). Secondly, we will begin signups for Journey Groups this month, and I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to grow in your faith through a small group. ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

You may or may not know that in the past, Southport United Methodist Church has been able to offer a small scholarship to assist with college expenses.   The scholarship was made possible by some past members of SUMC:   Mary & Riley Lynch. We haven’t been able to offer the scholarship for a few years but are able to do so again. If you are interested or want more information, please contact Pastor Doug in the church office. Application deadline is July 15th, 2019.   A decision will be made at that time so there can be no applications accepted after that date.
