A Letter from Pastor Mark - October

Dear Friends,
We are continuing this month examining information about how the church can become a   missional movement.  A missional movement is when every disciple who is a part of the church is so in love with Jesus that they live his message in everything they do, and Christ’s message goes viral passed on from person to person.

In order for a church to become a missional movement, it must contain missional DNA or mDNA.  The six elements composing mDNA are as follows:

Jesus is Lord
Disciple-making
Missional-incarnational impulse
Apostolic Environment
Organic systems
Communitas

Last month I examined the element of “Jesus is Lord.”  This month we are going to take a look at Disciple-making.

A church that becomes a missional movement will take seriously the call to make disciples.  That doesn’t mean that we just get people “saved.”  It means that they accept Jesus’ love and forgiveness, and they start the journey to grow in that love and forgiveness every day of their lives.  When a church is about making disciples, it is about teaching people how to live in the ways of Jesus.  Furthermore, disciple-making is about holding people accountable not only to learn about the ways of Jesus but also to incorporate those Jesus ways into our lives.

So a missional movement isn’t only about a group of people who come together every once in a while to worship.  A missional movement is about a group of people who live and follow   Jesus all the time, no matter where they are or what they are doing.
So, when a church is about disciple-making, the church will be teaching that living for Jesus becomes the primary focus of our lives.  Disciple-making is about helping people to allow    Jesus to live in them and through them on a continuous basis.  This is the way that Jesus lives his life through us.  Then the church will flow into its identity of being a missional movement because Jesus will be embedded in all that we do through our discipleship.
Next month we will take a look at the missional-incarnational impulse.
In Christ’s Abundant Love,
Pastor Mark
