The Southport Street Fair bake sale was a success for us, even though there wasn’t much of a crowd.  We will be able to donate to the Sumner’s garden program and the new garden at the Church by the Southport Rd. playground. Thanks to all the great bakers at Southport!

This Summer, UMW sponsors a Mission U activity at DePauw University on July 22. All are welcome to attend this very informative sampler day from 8:00 a.m. –1:00 p.m.
Session Topics are:

Spritual Growth: Living as a Covenant Community
Issue Study: Climate Justice: A Call to Hope in Action
Geographic Study: Missionary Conferences of the United Methodist Church in the United States

This summer we will be collecting items for Christmas Shoeboxes for Red Bird Mission.  An informative flyer with a list of items will be available at the Guest Services desk the beginning of June.  The boxes will be delivered to the Mission U Sampler Day on July 22, all items are due July 16.

Circle News:
Rebekah Circle: is on summer vacation and will meet again on September 12 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gathering Place. There will be a get together  July 11. Information on time and place will be available through the church office.

Anna Circle: the next meeting will be Monday, June 19, 1:00 p.m. at Rosegate.

Leah Circle: Their June Picnic pitch-in will be June 27 at 6:00 p.m.  This will be held at the Southport Park on Derbyshire Road at the shelter house.  All are welcome to attend, bring a yummy dish and come join us.   We will take a break for the summer and meet again on August 15 for our first sit & sew activity. All hands are welcome to help make Christmas stockings for Fletcher Place.

Dear Friends,            I am excited about the many things that are happening at Southport UMC this month.   There are many things going on at Southport UMC as we continue in ministry to the Southside of Indianapolis, but I would like to highlight a few opportunities, as well as share some information about changes that are coming this month. First of all, because of storm damage we are getting a new roof. This work will begin after September 8 and will take around a week to complete (weather permitting). Secondly, we will begin signups for Journey Groups this month, and I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to grow in your faith through a small group. ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

You may or may not know that in the past, Southport United Methodist Church has been able to offer a small scholarship to assist with college expenses.   The scholarship was made possible by some past members of SUMC:   Mary & Riley Lynch. We haven’t been able to offer the scholarship for a few years but are able to do so again. If you are interested or want more information, please contact Pastor Doug in the church office. Application deadline is July 15th, 2019.   A decision will be made at that time so there can be no applications accepted after that date.
