UNITED METHODIST WOMEN NEWS

The United Methodist Women of Southport United Methodist Church invite all women to our General Meeting Sunday, November 5.  We will get-together at 9:30 a.m. in the Music Room off the Gathering Place.  This gathering will give new ladies an opportunity to meet other UM Women.  We will also be voting on our by-laws and  the new 2018 budget.   It will be a very short gathering (about 15 minutes), so bring your coffee, tea and treats with you and come meet new friends.

Also, Saturday, November 11, from 9:30-11:30 a.m.  Church Women United will hold World Community Day.  This will be held at Vida Nueva  on the SW corner of Washington and Worman Streets.   The topic of discussion will be "Kindling the Fire of Peace".    Let the church know if you are interested in attending and wish to carpool with others.

UMW Circle Meetings
Rebekah Circle meets Tuesday, November 14 at the church at 1:00 p.m.  
They meet in the Gathering Place and collect cereal for Fletcher Place.
Anna Circle meets Monday,  November 20 at Rosegate on Emerson Ave. at 1:00 p.m.
  Leah Circle meets on Tuesday, November 21 at the church at 6:30 p.m.  They meet in Room W103.   They will be putting together care packages for soldiers.



EARTH CARE CONVERSATION
Do you have any ideas or suggestions on how to improve our greening practices at SUMC?  Let’s brainstorm together November 12, in the Music Room, at 9:30 a.m. to consider ways we can honor the Creator’s gifts that are on loan from our children.  Kids’ ideas welcome.

A Letter from Pastor Chris

Dear Friends,            I am excited about the many things that are happening at Southport UMC this month.   There are many things going on at Southport UMC as we continue in ministry to the Southside of Indianapolis, but I would like to highlight a few opportunities, as well as share some information about changes that are coming this month. First of all, because of storm damage we are getting a new roof. This work will begin after September 8 and will take around a week to complete (weather permitting). Secondly, we will begin signups for Journey Groups this month, and I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to grow in your faith through a small group. ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS

You may or may not know that in the past, Southport United Methodist Church has been able to offer a small scholarship to assist with college expenses.   The scholarship was made possible by some past members of SUMC:   Mary & Riley Lynch. We haven’t been able to offer the scholarship for a few years but are able to do so again. If you are interested or want more information, please contact Pastor Doug in the church office. Application deadline is July 15th, 2019.   A decision will be made at that time so there can be no applications accepted after that date.
