INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK SERVING HOMELESS FAMILIES (IHN)

“It’s less about the task and more about the way that serving draws us closer to Christ.”

INTERFAITH HOSPITALITY NETWORK SERVING HOMELESS FAMILIES (IHN)

IHN families arrive Sunday evening, February 3 and will be our guests through Sunday morning, February 17. During their stay we have many wonderful opportunities to offer them Jesus’ grace and love when we:
Pick up the families from the downtown Day Center using the IHN van and bring them to church
Prepare their dinner meal and fellowship together while we eat
Host after dinner while they relax and rest from their busy day
Host overnight while our guests sleep in their bedrooms and hosts sleep in a nearby bedroom
Wake the families, offer breakfast and help with lunches so they are ready to return to the Day Center
Use the IHN van and take families to the Day Center so the children can attend school and the parents can go to work, attend classes, look for new housing
Ministering to our guests involves many willing hands, people using their various gifts, and joining with other church family to serve those in a difficult situation.
If you have served with IHN in the past we hope you will continue to serve. Thank you for your time and commitment!
If IHN is a new serving opportunity for you, consider becoming part of the team this year.  See what positions are still open by contacting the church office, 317 784-9508 or email sherry@sumc.org. Now is a great time to gather experience and then have the knowledge and option of serving again when our second rotation comes in October.

“BE A RAINBOW IN SOMEONE ELSE’S CLOUD” – Maya Angelou

Did you know you are “a rainbow” when you donate blood? You are offering a promise of hope and in most cases to people you don’t even know.  You may be blessing someone who is critically ill, has been in a terrible accident, or trying to overcome a life threatening diagnosis.  Many people are living under a cloud and without rainbows, they have little hope.  Of course their needs include treatments, medications and a medical team. Even the absence of one of these, including the availability of a blood supply, may change their chances of living.
On Sunday, February 17 from 9:00am to 1:00pm a team from the Indiana Blood Center will be in the Gathering Place to welcome all who are willing to donate.  Most donors will be accepted with a few being delayed for another time. You can schedule a time to give by emailing sherry@sumc.org or https://www.donorpoint.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/122464
Whether you are able to donate or not, please invite family members, friends, co-workers and neighbors to consider giving on February 17.  Our drive is open to all. In 2018 at our four Blood Drives we collected a total of 54 units of blood.  However what we celebrate is that 162 lives were impacted by your generosity in giving.  162 RAINBOWS!
