CREATION CARE TEAM


The team met on Sunday, March 17th and discussed the following items:
We are looking to partner with local UM churches in the area.
We are going to meet on a regular basis. 
           Next meeting is April 8th at 7 p.m. in Room W104;  all are welcome. 
We want to attend the monthly Northside Meeting of Green Churches on the third  Thursday.
We have narrowed down trash and recycle containers in the Gathering Place. Hope this helps. 
Also....did you know we have someone who helps us collect plastic lids from all containers? These lids are used to make benches.  Please collect your lids and bring them to the church and place them in the kitchen by the microwave. We will be looking for a better collection spot in the future. 
Reminder that items for recycling and disposal can be taken to the TOX DROP on the 2nd Saturday from 9:00am – 12:00pm. This is located on Thompson Rd. off Madison Ave. behind the Fire Department and Perry Twp. Offices building. Follow the signs.
Best Buy takes items to recycle.  

On April 27th, Brenton Reality on Stop 11 will be hosting a shred day.  Check it out on the website for more information.

You may or may not know that in the past, Southport United Methodist Church has been able to offer a small scholarship to assist with college expenses.   The scholarship was made possible by some past members of SUMC:   Mary & Riley Lynch. We haven’t been able to offer the scholarship for a few years but are able to do so again. If you are interested or want more information, please contact Pastor Doug in the church office. Application deadline is July 15th, 2019.   A decision will be made at that time so there can be no applications accepted after that date.

A Letter from Pastor Chris

Dear Friends,            I am excited about the many things that are happening at Southport UMC this month.   There are many things going on at Southport UMC as we continue in ministry to the Southside of Indianapolis, but I would like to highlight a few opportunities, as well as share some information about changes that are coming this month. First of all, because of storm damage we are getting a new roof. This work will begin after September 8 and will take around a week to complete (weather permitting). Secondly, we will begin signups for Journey Groups this month, and I encourage everyone to take this opportunity to grow in your faith through a small group.
