DISCIPLES SERVE

It is always amazing how God presents additional opportunities for the disciples of Southport Church to serve using the gifts and passion with which He has blessed us.
Recently we have had conversations with leaders who have a passion for their ministry and a love for their community. After much thought we have decided to take a leap of faith and invite our congregation to be involved and embrace these ministries which serve children and older adults. Both align with our mission of making disciples for the transformation of the world and sharing Jesus’ love.

PROJECT TRANSFORMATION
This United Methodist affiliated ministry has the vision of:
improving CHILDREN’s literacy, social-emotional, and spiritual development through an out-of-school ministry led by college-age young adults
COLLEGE STUDENTS invest in the lives of underserved children as they live in community, explore their calling, and develop as servant leaders
CHURCHES reconnect and build relationships with their neighbors
What would be our first step?
We can serve by reading with children at one of three UM churches choosing from a Monday-Thursday (one or more days), 9:30am to 12noon, June 10-July 30; there are a variety of options and schedules
We can provide a dinner for the college interns by picking a Sunday-Thursday evening
We can donate program supplies
We can provide the funding for one of the college interns who would be our advocate for Project Transformation, worship with us weekly and become acquainted with our church family

There is so much more good news to hear about Project Transformation. Visit the web site www.projecttransformation.org/Indiana or find them on Face Book @projecttransformationindiana. One of the best ways to learn this good news is from the Indiana director, Sarah Fuquay. Sarah will join us in early April and share her passion for Project Transformation and answer questions. Please email sherry@sumc.org to share your interest in attending.

PERRY SENIOR SERVICES

The new Director of Perry Senior Services is Diane Buchanan, a member of Southport UMC. Diane would like to provide an opportunity for our congregation to share in serving our community neighbors by assisting with transportation needs to appointments and other options available to be involved as we feel called. If you would like to know more about Perry Senior Services or can occasionally be available for seniors who need transportation, Diane would enjoy talking with you.  Her contact information is diane@perryseniors.org
