DISCIPLES SERVE

It is always amazing how God presents opportunities for the disciples of Southport Church to serve using the gifts and passion with which He has blessed us
JULY OPPORTUNITIES
Provide back to school needs for children – Christmas In July
From July 4 through 28 visit the Christmas in July ministry table in the Gathering Place
Take one or more tags from the boards, make your purchases and return them to church and you will have shared your time and resources so that children from our community who attend Homecroft Elementary will have what is needed for back to school.
Provide food, drinks, prizes, gift cards so that families can enjoy a community festival at no cost
When you visit the Christmas in July ministry table you will have options to purchase food items, drinks, game prizes for families to enjoy at the Community Festival and Movie Night at Homecroft on August 2.
Talk with a Festival leader and find out how you can participate in preparing for the Festival, help at the Festival, or afterwards with clean up.
Participate in a weekend of Prison Ministry – Kairos Prison Ministry
In the fall we will a have team of women and a team of men each spending a weekend at one of Indiana’s prison facilities sharing Jesus’ love.  Be a member of the team or visit a closing program, pray for the weekend experience, or share your resources in support of Kairos Prison Ministry
A Kairos ministry leader will have information about all of the above July 11 and 14 in the Gathering Place.
Offer a meal, a conversation or pray with a parent/relative of a critically ill child – Ronald McDonald House
Meal preparation, serving, and cleaning up afterwards at one of two Ronald McDonald House facilities July 21 or 27 with team members from SUMC.
An additional blessing is the chance to talk with a parent or relative and hear their story, to share a prayer, or hold a hand.
Prepare and serve breakfast at Fletcher Place – God’s Will Breakfast
Prepare a breakfast meal at Fletcher Place Community Center in Fountain Square with a team from SUMC on Thursday, July 20.
Visit with people from the near downtown community and children in the preschool and offer nourishment, conversation and Jesus’ love.
Cleaning your closets and finding new homes for gently used clothing – Interfaith Hospitality Network
Yes, cleaning out your closets is an excellent way to serve. What is no longer used or valuable to you may be exactly what another person needs.
Start now with those closets and put gently used clothing items in white trash bags.
Keep the bags at home until Sunday August 11 and then bring them to church and place them under the coat racks in the hallway.
Collections end August 18.
